the summary of the Levitical system as a whole (Lev. 26:46). God gave the Law to the “house of Jacob” and “the children of Israel” (Exod. 19:3). Nowhere in Scripture is the Law of Moses ever said to have been given to the church. Only when the church’s program is not seen as distinct from Israel’s can it be said that the Law was given to the church. The nation to whom the Law was given was viewed by God as a redeemed people, that is, a people purchased by God at great cost (Heb. 11:28; Isa. 43:1).
